FAQs Home Insurance

How do I establish the total amount to insure?

When you insure a building, it’s important to make sure that the insurance coverage matches the total cost needed to rebuild it, not including the land itself. For the items inside your building, like furniture and appliances, the insurance should cover the cost of replacing them with new ones.

I have a flat and the community takes care of the building policy, do I still need insurance?

There isn’t one clear answer since every case can be different. However, from our experience, community insurance policies usually don’t cover private plumbing, and the insured amounts tend to be too low, which can lead to disputes when filing a claim. Additionally, the policy generally only protects the “original” home as it was received from the builder. As a result, any improvements made to the property—like security systems, grilles, sun awnings, and so on—will NOT be protected by the
community policy. Therefore, we suggest that the client add a first-risk building insurance policy for a property worth at least €20,000.

I have a mortgage on my property and the bank insists on selling me its own home insurance. What should I do?

When getting a mortgage, your bank might require you to take out home insurance and make them a part of the policy. However, the bank shouldn”t force you to buy their insurance. In fact, we suggest that you avoid getting insurance through the bank because they often don’t prioritize your needs and can leave you in a tough spot once they sell you the policy. If you ever need to make a claim, you might have to navigate complicated phone systems, which can be frustrating. Plus, you can often find better deals and more personalized service by working with an insurance broker.

If I have a claim, how do I handle it and how long will it take?

Just reach out to us and share the details of your claim. We’ll handle the rest for you. Depending on what the claim is about, we’ll do our best to send someone with expertise to help fix the issue within 24 hours of getting your call. Please remember, this needs to be supported by any necessary documents.

What cover do I have when insuring my jewellery?

The coverage for your jewellery varies depending on your insurance policy. Generally, many policies may cover up to 15% of the total value of your belongings for jewellery, with a maximum limit of €3,000. However, it’s important to check with us and provide a list of your jewellery. In Spain, most insurance policies only cover jewellery against specific risks that might happen in your home, meaning that any coverage outside your home is usually very limited. However, there are a limited number of insurers who do offer “all risks” coverage. If you prefer this option, we can help arrange it for you.

What type of cover is there for my valuables?

It really depends on the insurance policy you have. Many of our policies allow you to use up to 25% of the total amount you’re insured for to cover valuable items like artwork, antiques, carpets, and collectibles. Each individual item can have a maximum limit of €6,000. To make sure you’re fully protected, we suggest contacting us and providing a list of your valuable items.

Burglars have broken into my house and stolen several items. How should I proceed?

If you’ve lost something important, it’s a good idea to contact the police. Let them know what you’ve lost and give them a list of the missing items. They will create a report for you. After that, make sure to contact us to open the corresponding claim for you.

Should I report a loss, even if it is small?

This question can be tricky because it really depends on how you feel about registering claims and whether your policy has an excess (the amount you must pay before your insurance kicks in). If the cost of your claim is actually lower than the deductible, it usually doesn’t make sense to file that claim.

What happens if I have an accident outside working hours and need urgent assistance?

Many of the insurance plans we offer come with a 24-hour helpline that you can call to help with your claim. They will also set up a visit from a qualified professional to provide the repairs or assistance you need. Acting quickly can help lessen the effects of the situation and make the claims process faster. That’s why we suggest you take advantage of this service.

Homeowners Community Insurance

How do I establish the correct amount to insure in the case of an insurance policy for a community of owners?

There are a number of owners who are not up to date with their community fees. Is there anything we can do?

Many communities struggle with certain challenges, and these problems can get worse during tough economic times, especially in areas where homes are still unsold. One solution that can really benefit these communities is having a legal support system in place. This would allow the community to take legal action against people who owe money, helping to protect their interests and improve the situation for everyone.

What should we do about community contents?

Most of the communities own a content which includes the furniture of the common areas, fire extinguishers, a porter’s lodge, community cleaning, maintenance and landscaping elements, etc. …. These should be valued as new in case of replacement.
